is made in the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. In 1651, Jagdish
temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh, who

1628-53. Sahelion ki bari - Saheliyon ki Bari
recreates regal grandeur as you walk along marble pathways flanked
by life size |

sculptures of elephants and lions spurting water into exotic

that beckons . Much has been written about the Citadel of the
Sun, for truly, it is one of the most impressive in all Rajasthan. |

Moti-Mahal - The Moti Mahal was
where Mehrangarh’s most important Durbars were held. A
Durbar is where the Maharaja met |

his family, nobles, ministers, officers and spiritual
leaders. |

The Moti Mahal; (Large On Black)the Pearl
Palace takes it’s name from the quality of the
lime plaster used. Mixed with finely |
| |
crushed shells, it gives the surfaces of the room a pearl-like
luster. Oil lamps glowed from every alcove. Light bounced off
the gold |
 |
| |
filigree ceiling and reflected the colors of the stained glass
windows. This created a marble-like patina on the walls. |

Phool
Mahal – Around the fort of Kishangarh (Rajasthan,
India) is the moat and garden - on which "Phool Mahal"
was built in A.D. |

1870
and was the Palace of the flowers for the Maharaja's of Kishangarh.

Jaswant Thada – It is a 19th
century royal cenotaph built in commemoration of Maharaja Jaswant
Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler |

of
Jodhpur. The son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, Maharaja Sardar
Singh, in the memory of his father, built the Jaswant Thada |

Museum – The museum building
and the garden were developed during the time of Maharaja Umaid
Singhji. It encompasses |

a wide collection of weapons, textiles,
miniature portraits and local arts
and crafts. Also displayed in the museum are,
portraits of |
| |
rulers and the manuscripts and images of Jain Tirthankars. |

After this we will move forward to Jaisalmer and
visit the Osian Temples - Ossian is located at the edge of the
Thar Desert, 65 kms |
 |
| |
north
west of Jodhpur. Though Ossian does not figure in the regular
tourist guides of India, yet this once prosperous city, boasts
of |
| |
more
than 100 Hindu and Jain temples dating back to the
Medieval age. Legend has it that the town was founded by Utpaladeva, |
| |
a Rajput prince of the Pratihara Dynasty. It was then known
as Ukesha or Upkeshapur. |

Morning
breakfast, visit the different Havelis - The beautiful sandstone
mansions of Jaisalmer's wealthy merchants are known |

'havelis'. Their elaborate homes are a poem
etched out in sandstone with infinite details and pains, carved
and pieced together |
|
| |
in
different patterns, and though they are lavish and loud in nature,
there is a perfect harmony that characterizes |
 |
| |
them and they are a treat for the eyes of the beholder. |

| |
Afternoon visit the Sam Sand Dunes - There is no
point coming to the Thar Desert if you don't go for the Desert
Safari. That is why |

Sam
sand dunes are becoming the major attraction in Jaisalmer.
This is the closest place from where you can loose yourself
in |
|
| |
'the
Great Thar Desert'. Sam has a truly magnificent stretch
of sweeping dunes, with sparse or no vegetation. |

The
best way to get here, of course, is on camelback. |
